PERUVIAN RIDING HORSES.
Few people are aware that horsers have uniquely American roots and that alter being subject to inclement weather and persecution at the hands of pillagers, jorses adapted, growing in size and changing the shape and form of their feet.
When horses retourned to Perú after many centuries, it was at the service of foreigners. Francisco Pizarro was responsable for bringing horses to this part of the world and it is said that the first time the natives laid eyes on a horse they felt both fear and ewe. Horses undeniably played a crusial role in the conquest during various veattles waged by the spaniards aganinst the indigenous population.
ORIGINS.
The first horse brought to the Americas were descendants of the Andalucian race and had Arabic lineage as well. Duriong the 400 years before their arrival in the Americas, these horses were bred to be the best in the world. When people began cultivating large parcels of land, it became to necessary to find an efficient and confortable mode of transportation that would allow for the traveling of large distances - sometimes days at a time - without rest. Thus in Peru the preferred mathod of transport in all regions became the horse. Peruvian horses have overcome some of the most difficult geographic challenges, such as the quicksand in the deserts along the coast, the capricious lands of the valleys and mountain cliffs, and the icy Andean plateaus. Throughtout all of these journeys, peruvian horses have developed incredible endurance, making them a race of strong, but mild - tempered animals.
